PNYC Seeks Interim Stated Clerk

The Presbytery of New York City is seeking candidates for the position of a half-time (20 hours/week) Interim Stated Clerk (ISC). The ISC is a part of a collegial staff team committed to the vision, mission and goals of the Presbytery of New York City. S/he will serve as an ecclesiastical and administrative officer of the presbytery. S/he will work in relationship with the Interim Executive Presbyter as Head of Staff.  S/he will be responsible for judicial matters as specified by the Book of Order and will secure the General Council’s appointment of investigating committees or committees of counsel when necessary.  The ideal candidate is a ruling elder or a teaching elder thoroughly conversant with Presbyterian polity, including judicial process and the Rules of Discipline, and Robert’s Rules of Order, and a trained and/or experienced parliamentarian. S/he must have extensive knowledge of the organization, structure, polity and resources of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  S/he must have organizational and managerial abilities; experience working with a diverse constituency or membership of a governing body; and the ability to work with others towards achieving the Presbytery’s current mission, ecclesiastical and administrative goals.  S/he must be an effective communicator (oral and written); and knowledgeable of electronic communication technologies.  Some local and national travel may be necessary.

TERM:  The ISC will be elected for a term of one year, August 1, 2012-July 31, 2013.  The ISC may not apply for the permanent stated clerk position.  However, the term of the interim stated clerk may be extended or renewed for an additional period of time on the recommendation of the Personnel Committee to the General Cabinet with the approval of the Presbytery.

EFFECTIVE SALARY – $ 36,000 per annum, with standard Presbytery half-time benefits.
