The Presbytery of New York City encompasses the geographic boundaries of the City of New York, the five boroughs of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. In our 97 congregations, we welcome nearly 17,000 members in worship, mission, and service to our city and beyond. We are a part of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the Synod of the Northeast.

West-Park Presbyterian Church Update

At its stated meeting on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, the Presbytery of New York City heard a report related to the recent decision of the Landmarks Preservation Commission of New York City to recommend landmark designation of the West-Park Presbyterian Church building. The Presbytery condemned this action and called for this action to be communicated to the members of the New York City Council. It also encouraged Presbytery commissioners to personally contact their councilpersons to relay their concerns about this matter. As this proceeding goes forward, we hope the information in the statement will give further background and guidance to these important steps as presbyters consider how they might be able to become involved.

Statement Regarding Landmark Status for West-Park Presbyterian Church

Leadership Development Day – Saturday, February 6

UPDATE (February 4): Due to predicted weather conditions, Leadership Development Day has been postponed until Saturday, February 13. The start time and location remain the same.

Join us for the Presbytery’s annual Leadership Development Day on Saturday, February 6, 2010, at the Brick Presbyterian Church (62 East 92nd Street at Park Avenue – get directions) in Manhattan. This year’s workshops revolve around the theme of church administration and are perfect for deacons, elders, treasurers, clerks of session, and even pastors. The full list of workshop offerings is available here.

Registration for the day is $25 ($10 for youth 18 and under) and includes lunch. Print out and send in your registration form today! Contact Janet Pearson via email or the Presbytery office at (212) 870-2221 for more information.

New Presbytery Website

Welcome to the new website for the Presbytery of New York City! After many months of work and review, we are excited to make this new site available to the public and the presbytery.

Much of the content here was transferred directly from the old website, so some information may be out of date. However, we are hoping that it will be updated in the very near future. To request changes to the site or submit new information, contact us here.

This new site is built on WordPress, a blogging/content management framework that enables easy editing and many potential features in the future. We look forward to adding new content regularly and new features as our resources allow. Our web hosting is provided at very low costs (available to all churches and non-profit organizations) by Dreamhost.
