The purpose of the Council for Congregational Ministry and Nurture is to provide programs and resources for the development and strengthening of the congregations of the Presbytery of New York City. These include developing a youth program, training for evangelism, assisting small and marginalized congregations, training of lay leadership, developing ministry for ethnically diverse residents, training in polity, and enabling a strategy for the use of church buildings.
The Council for Congregational Ministry would have each congregation healthy, vital, and whole in terms of its inner life – programming, management, and internal relationships – to effectively honor the call of Christ to serve others. In addition, through its Committee on Developing Congregations it supports the ministries of new immigrant fellowships. Through its Youth Committee it also sponsors a Presbytery-wide program for the development of youth leadership.
