Consider Providing Hospitality to the Hurricane Evacuees Coming to NYC from Puerto Rico & the U.S. Virgin Islands

 
 

START BY

  • Volunteer with NYDIS at the Hurricane Recovery Center on E. 106th St to interview evacuees needing assistance – bilingual volunteers are particularly needed
  • Volunteer with administrative tasks in the NYDIS Office in midtown
  • Raise money in your congregation for gift cards for evacuees who need coats, warm clothing, bedding, and related items for living in NYC in the winter
  • Receive a special offering in your congregation for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance for ministry with the evacuees and others affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria
  • Help an evacuee family get an apartment and furnishings and staples for their stay here in NYC
  • Get Disaster Chaplain Training so you can offer emotional & spiritual care to people experiencing the trauma of loss of home and security and livelihood
