Annual Meeting, Elections, Installations

This is a reminder that our next presbytery meeting will be held May 15 at the First Presbyterian Church, Jamaica, NY. It is our Annual Meeting and will include the election of persons to serve on presbytery committees, the installation of our new moderator (Sandy Lane) and moderator-elect (Chris Shelton), commissioning of our General Assembly delegates, the audit, my annual report, thanks to those completing presbytery service, and other items of governance from our presbytery committees. The meeting will begin in the afternoon and conclude with worship, probably after dinner.

The Budget and Finance Committee has requested all committee chairs and vice-chairs (or committee clerks, if no vice chair) into a pre-presbytery discussion about how budgeting will work for 2019. The budgeting process is changing for 2019, per agreements in 2018 with the presbytery. What is important for committees is to reach collective commitment to priority presbytery goals and what resources we need to do so. Our present vision and strategic action steps are listed on the presbytery’s website.

By vote of the presbytery at its March 2018 meeting, in 2019 the Presbytery of New York City will host four (4) instead of six (6) meetings a year. The General Cabinet chair is appointing an implementation team to guide us into a four-meeting-per-year operation. The Standing Rules Committee is reviewing and revising our present rules for action later in 2018.
